Get in the spirit of the season with a weekend of holiday fun in downtown Hazard on Dec. 9 and 10!

For starters, we are bringing an ice skating rink and a toboggan sledding hill to Perry County! The Perry County Fair Advisory Board is bringing these two attractions as fundraisers for next summer’s Perry County Fair to Triangle Park at the end of Main Street in downtown Hazard on the following schedule:

Friday, Dec. 9, 5 p.m.- 9 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. (closed 4:00 – 4:30 p.m. for Parade)

In addition, Hazard/Perry County Tourism will be showing a Christmas favorite on Friday evening! Join us for the movie “Elf” in the parking lot beside Hazard Insurance, beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m. Get there early so you can put your chairs and blankets in the perfect viewing spot possible!

On Saturday, we will also have the Christmas Parade on Main Street beginning at 4 p.m. Parade lineup begins at 3 p.m. and the Chicks Village also opens at that time. The first 300 children ages 12 and under will receive several free items so be sure to stop by! And, of course, Santa Claus will be at the parade to kick off the holiday season right! After the parade, Santa, Mrs. Claus and one of the elves will be available in The Triangle for free photo opportunities.

In addition, at 6:30 p.m., the “Christmas In A Small Town” musical performance, featuring the Hazard Area Community Choir and handbell choir, will be held at The Forum. This year’s event will be a salute to radio stations WSGS and WKIC with many of your Christmas favorites.

You can also drive or stroll down Main Street to enjoy the numerous Christmas tree displays in Hazard. Trees are sponsored by local schools, businesses, and civic organizations and will be themed and beautifully decorated, lighting and lining Main Street. You can even take an ornament from a tree, if you like! You can also enjoy the Christmas Storybook Walk, featuring “The Polar Express.” Pages from the book will be placed in local business windows on Main Street to be read as you make your way to the to the ice skating and tobogganing venue at The Triangle at end of Main Street.

Visit our area vendors in the Triangle to do some of your Christmas shopping and keep your dollars right here in eastern Kentucky! And Judge Alexander spoke to Santa personally and received his guarantee that we will have snow in The Triangle this weekend! Mark it on your calendar NOW!
