HAZARD— On Tuesday, at approximately 5 a.m. Hazard’s historic Grand Hotel caught fire. The building now houses Peking Chinese Restaurant, Hall Properties, Hazard Quick Copy, a Small Town Tattoo and Elmer T. Gabbard Dentistry. 61 people currently reside in the upstairs apartments. We’re told 4 children and 2 adults have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

County Judge Executive, Scott Alexander worked hands on to provide food and water to the victims on scene and tells us, “We want to confirm that there are no lives lost, and that is the most important thing. The Hazard Fire Department and the Volunteer Fire Departments are doing an amazing job. Sometimes we overlook those people, but they are a very important part of our community.”

First Presbyterian Church of Hazard is setting up shelter for the victims, and Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church will be the drop off point for donations, located at 701 High Street Hazard, Kentucky 41701.

The American Red Cross and Emergency Directory quickly reacted to care for the victims. The American Red Cross is handling all cash donations and asks for the community to donate canned food, clothing, toys for the children involved, and other necessities which can be received at Bowman Memorial.
