HAZARD — Piano students with Hazard Community and Technical College’s (HCTC) piano class delighted the crowd during their performance of their spring piano recital on Friday.

Piano Instructor Kay Crowe welcomed the parents, grandparents, and lovers of music to HCTC’s campus. She told the audience to expect a variety of different songs during the evening’s recital.

“I’m the teacher of these wonderful students. Enjoy the music tonight,” Crowe said.

A total of 15 students would perform during the course of the evening.

The first performance of the evening was Alice Caudill. Caudill performed the contemporary piece “Thy Will.”

Next was Parker Maggard performing the hymn “Jesus Loves Me.”

Maggard was followed by Ethan Applegate; Applegate performed “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Disney’s Toy Story.

Next was Noah Holland performing “Can-Can” from Orpheus in the Underworld.

Following Holland, Chole Brashear performed “Be Our Guest” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Next was Ivanka Sharma, she performed “Spring” from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

Following Sharma, Matthew Aruta performed the traditional piece “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”

She has been playing the piano since she was six years old. Maggard’s been training under Crowe since Crowe became the pinao instructor in 2012.

“I hadn’t played them before and wanted to try something different,” Maggard said about selecting the melodies by Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley as her recital pieces.

After each performance, a thunderous applause echoed throughout the room. Crowe praised each of her students when they walked passed her after their performances.

“Great job!” Crowe said, giving each of her students a thumbs up.
