New route set for ‘Run For The Hills’

Staff Report

New race route.

The 5th annual Run For The Hills 5K is this Saturday. With over 300 runners and walkers pre-registered for the race, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is setting the stage for another exciting event to benefit 19 local non-profit partners.

As a result of the fire that destroyed the landmark “Grand Hotel” building on main street last month, the route for the 5K has been adjusted. Runners and walkers will begin on Main Street near the City Hall parking lot, follow High Street to East Main, and continue along East Main to Woodland Park. Runners/walkers will circle along Kentucky Blvd in Woodland Park, returning to East Main, continuing across High Street to the finish shoot.

Runners/walkers are encouraged to utilize the sidewalks or stay as close to the sidewalks as possible during the race. Distance markers and event volunteers will be posted along the route.

Pre-registration and packet pickup is Friday, 10 am – 7 pm at the Foundation office in Chavies. Registration will be available on race day as well. For more information, call 606.439.1357.
