Hazard Exxon station robbed, perpetrator still at large

HAZARD—Officers with the Hazard Police Department are looking for an unidentified man who robbed the cashier at an Exxon gas station in Hazard at knife-point early Wednesday morning.
Detective Adam Baker said the incident happened just after 3 a.m., and was caught on store surveillance footage.
“The guy came in and apparently showed a knife to the cashier and demanded money,” Baker said. “In the video it shows he walks around the counter and gets the money his self out of the cash register.”
Baker said the robber took over $200 from the register and fled from the store, driving away in a silver sedan he had parked in a driveway next to the gas station.
The robber was described as being about 5-foot-8, weighing around 230 pounds, and wearing dark pants and a tan jacket, Baker said, adding that it was difficult to get a better description of the subject from the video due to the grey women’s jogging pants he had wrapped around his face.
“We’ve got the grey jogging pants that he had wrapped around his head. He left them outside where his car was parked at,” Baker said.
No injuries were reported from the incident, and no one was in the gas station at the time, Baker said.
“There were people that came in just right before that and just right after that and they just got lucky that nobody came in while he was there,” he said.
