The Hazard Bulldogs began their quest for a second Class A state title on Friday. The first team up for the Bulldogs was the Lynn Camp Wildcats.

The Bulldogs started with a bang as they forced the Wildcats into a fumble on the one-yard line on the opening kickoff. Hazard finished on the next play as Brandon Jones pushed it into the end zone (7-0).

After a minimal fight on their next possession, Lynn Camp was forced to punt and set up Hazard inside Wildcat territory. Again, Brandon Jones made quick work of it as he rambled 48 yards to the end zone (14-0).

The Bulldogs’ next score came on an unconventional play. Ray Dixon caught the Wildcat ball carrier in the end zone for a safety (16-0). It would be the second such play, but the first was erased due to a penalty.

After the free kick set Hazard up with good field position, the Bulldogs went back to work. After a handful of plays, Jason Johnson grabbed a Tanner Morgan pass and skirted up the sideline for a 22-yard touchdown (23-0).

Moments later, Jones scored his third touchdown of the first quarter, going 20 yards on the ground to give Hazard the 29-0 lead (the extra-point was mishandled).

With time still remaining in the first period, Hazard went for touchdown number five. Tanner Morgan found Chris Hudson in the end zone for the score, and after the extra point the Bulldogs held a 36-0 first period lead.

The first period scoring was not over. With just seconds on the clock, Lynn Camp got their first score. Tommy Hatfield took a short Aaron Mills pass and cut up the middle of the field for a 64-yard touchdown. Going into the second period, Hazard held the 36-6 lead.

The Bulldogs would score a pair of touchdowns in the second period, both of them on runs. On the first, Trey Higgins capped a drive with a three-yard run. Hazard then closed their book with a 15-yard Alex Francis run (50-6).

The lone score of the second half went to Lynn Camp. Hatfield hauled in his second pass from Mills and went 66 yards to the house. The score would set the final tally at 50-12.

Hazard’s next opponent will be the Campbellsville Eagles (4-7).
