The Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Campbellsville Eagles Friday in the second round of the Class A state football playoffs. With the pouring rain, the Bulldogs shifted the focus to the power running game, and were able to run over the Eagles to keep their title bid alive.

Hazard wasted little time getting on the board as their first drive concluded with a touchdown. The Bulldogs go-to guy, Brandon Jones, cleared his way through the Eagle defense for a 29-yard score (7-0).

Campbellsville put together a strong drive on their next possession, but came up short of the goal as the Hazard defense stepped up. At that point the two teams took a couple of shots at each other, with the Bulldogs getting the final blow in.

With time running out in the first period, Hazard got the ball on their own 10-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Jones blasted through the line and cut up the sideline, avoiding several would-be tacklers along the way, for a 90-yard touchdown (13-0).

The Bulldogs were only able to put together a single touchdown in the second period. Jones picked up his third touchdown of the game on an 18-yard run. The score gave Hazard the 20-0 halftime lead.

Campbellsville broke the ice early in the third period. The Eagles concluded a sustained drive with a 22-yard run by Arick Goves, setting the score at 20-6.

The Bulldogs scored again at the end of the third period and at the beginning of the fourth. Both touchdowns came on 39-yard plays by Brandon Jones.

In the third period, Jones scored on a 39-yard run (27-6), and the fourth period score would be a 39-yard pass from Tanner Morgan (34-0). However, the final score would go to the Eagles as they picked up a safety to bring the final tally to 34-8.

The Bulldogs will take to the road for the third round as they will take on Williamsburg. The winner of this game will host the fourth round (the winner of Raceland and Pikeville).
