The Buckhorn Wildcats fell to 1-1 on the season following a four-point loss on the road at Cordia Thursday evening.

The game was close throughout, with Buckhorn taking the early lead after a technical foul was assessed against Cordia before the game began. But while the Lions quickly gained the lead, the outcome was never assured as Buckhorn maintained its pressure defense and was able to convert turnovers into points while capitalizing on its outside shooting as well.

The Wildcats eventually cut the lead to two points with only seconds on the clock when the game began to unravel for Buckhorn. A blocked shot gave the Lions the possession, leading to a fast-break dunk by eighth grader Oumar Keita to give Cordia the 56-52 win.

Cordia captured its first win in the team’s season opener, and will go on to play Lexington Catholic at home on Saturday.

Buckhorn will travel to Berea on Saturday to play in the Wierwille Classic.
