On Friday, the Hazard Bulldogs played host to the Perry County Central Commodores. The two teams have split their previous meetings, and both teams were wanting the win to give them some momentum going into the district tournament.
The Bulldogs came out strong, and went on top 7-1 with only a couple of minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Commodores hit a couple of shots late, ending the period down by one 9-10.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the second period, and with a handful of ticks on the clock, Hazard held the one-point lead (26-15). Griffin Wells hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Bulldogs to the locker room with the 29-25 advantage.
Perry Central caught fire in the third period, soon erasing their deficit, and began to build a lead. With eight minutes remaining, the Commodores held the 51-41 lead.
The Commodores went up by 12 with four minutes to play. With a rivalry such as this, one knew the Bulldogs were posed for a run. Down the stretch, Hazard was able to cut the margin to three (61-58), but could get no closer as Perry Central was able to hold on for the 65-62 win.
