On Friday, the Perry County Central Lady Commodores took on the Breathitt County Lady Bobcats in the semifinals of the 14th region tournament. The two teams split the regular season meetings, with each taking the win on their home court.
The game would never reach the point in which the trailing team could not make up the difference with a couple of quick baskets. The first period advantage went to Perry Central (10-9), and it would be the Lady Commodores up by two (26-24) at the intermission.
The lead went back and forth in the third period, with Breathitt County holding the one point lead (43-42) going into the final frame. The fourth quarter would be more of the same, with the Lady Bobcats going up four with a little more than a minute showing on the clock.
Perry Central picked up a basket and a turnover with a handful of seconds on the clock, leaving them with a two point deficit (62-60). The Lady Commodores got a good look late, but it was blocked out of bounds, setting up a throw in with two seconds on the clock.
Kayla Rankin got loose in the paint, and got off a shot. Rankin was fouled on the shot, and somehow managed to muscle the ball over the rim (62-62). She then hit the free throw for the 63-62 win.
Perry Central (63) Kayla Rankin 20, Whitney Evans 6, Lyndci Combs 21, Perri Coots 5, Allie Sizemore 6, Morgan Eddington 2 and Kelly Ashworth 1.
