The Hazard Lady Bulldogs opened their 2014 softball season with the Shelby Valley Lady Wildcats. The Lady Bulldogs did not wait long to pick up their first win as they defeated the Lady Wildcats 12-0 in five innings.


The Lady Bulldogs took the 3-0 lead in the first inning, and then blew the game open with eight runs (11-0) in the second inning. Hazard scored a lone run in the third inning to bring their tally to 12-0, but had to wait until Shelby Valley batted in the fifth inning to collect the 12-0 win.

Hazard’s defense led the way as they shut down the Shelby Valley offense who picked up five hits throughout the game. Bulldog pitcher Chandler Maggard had five strikeouts in the game, and struck out the side in the fifth inning.

Hazard stats: Fugate (2 runs), Niece (1 run), Stupart (1 run), Wells (1 run), Robinson (1 hit and 3 runs), Muha (1 run), Maggard (1 hit), Griffie (2 runs), and Sparkman (1 run).
