HAZARD—A public event is scheduled for Hazard next week aimed at helping local residents sign up for health insurance.
In Perry County, approximately 18 percent of residents under age 65 currently have no health insurance, but may be eligible for government assistance to purchase coverage under the new Affordable Care Act. Next week’s event, hosted by several state and local organization, will help residents learn more about the new health care law and also help them compare health plans and enroll for coverage through the state’s new health insurance exchange, kynect.
Anyone who enrolls by Dec. 15 will have coverage by Jan. 1.
The event is free and open to the public and scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the conference center of the Kentucky River Area Development District in the Perry County Park. Registration is required, and can be completed via telephone at 1-877-926-8300.
Sessions will be presented hourly and include an overview of the health care law, and will be followed by one-on-one assistance, according to a release from AARP Kentucky, one of the organizations coordinating the event.
The Kentucky River Area Development District is located at 917 Perry Park in Hazard.
