HAZARD – A Perry County man will begin serving time in prison after being sentenced in Perry Circuit Court this week on a meth-related charge.

Deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old James Ritchie at his home in the Slemp community in March after receiving complaints of possible meth-making activity at the residence. Once inside, police found several items used to make methamphetamine, including drain cleaner, tubing, and other materials.

Ritchie was indicted in May on charges of manufacturing meth and unlawful possession of meth precursors, and pleaded guilty last month to the latter charge as part of an agreement that would see the more serious of the charges, manufacturing meth, dismissed in exchange for a five-year prison sentence.

Ritchie appeared in court on Thursday, where he was sentenced in accordance with the plea agreement and remanded to the custody of the Kentucky Department of Corrections to begin serving the sentence.
