BUCKHORN—An Owsley County woman died Monday at the hospital from injuries she sustained after overturning her vehicle in a creek in the Buckhorn community over the weekend.

According to Kentucky State Police, 65-year-old Norma Gay, of Booneville, was travelling north on KY 2022 in a 2000 Ford pickup truck when the vehicle apparently dropped off the shoulder of the roadway and traveled over an embankment. The truck then overturned in a creek, coming to rest on its top.

The Buckhorn Fire Department responded to scene and extracted Gay from the vehicle, and she was transported to the Hazard ARH. Gay was later airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., and was pronounced dead on Monday due to injuries she sustained in the accident.

KSP said Gay was using her seat belt at the time of the incident, and no alcohol use is suspected. No one else was involved in or was injured in the accident, and it remains under investigation by KSP.
