HAZARD-A Hopkins County man was indicted this month on multiple charges related to the burglary of a Dollar General store in Hazard.

Kenneth Gay, 36, from Nortonville, Ky., was originally charged with third-degree criminal mischief, public intoxication of a controlled substance, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree fleeing or evading a police officer.

On February 22, 2014, Gay allegedly ran from Hazard City Police Officer Steve Everidge after burglarizing the Dollar General Store on East Main St. Everidge observed Gay running from an area that has a history of burglary, after identifying himself, the officer engaged in a short foot pursuit before arresting Gay, according to the arrest citation obtained from the Perry County Court House

Everidge wrote that during the pursuit he saw, “the subject throw a garbage bag and a pry bar in dumpster.”

After the arrest, it was found that the Dollar General store on East Main St. had been broken into and there was video of the subject entering the store and leaving after closing.

When these acts were allegedly committed Gay was out on bail from a previous arrest in which Gay supposedly broke into an apartment in Gorman Hollow armed with a hammer. Those charges occurred while Gay was out on bail from a traffic stop that resulted in charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence along with several traffic citations. These charges have not yet been brought to court.

Gay was indicted on one count of third degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, tampering with physical evidence, second degree fleeing or evading the police, and third degree criminal mischief.

Bail was set in the amount of $25,000 cash and the arraignment date is set for May 15.
