HAZARD-A Perry County man was indicted this month on charges from an attempted robbery that led to the shooting of a witness earlier this year.

Dustin Stidham, 26, of Bonneyman, allegedly attempted to rob Billy Helton on Wells Street in Hazard on February 15. According to the arrest citation obtained from the Perry County Court House, Stidham supposedly pointed a loaded handgun at Helton and demanded money.

The citation went on to state that Helton struggled with Stidham over the weapon and the gun discharged once. Stidham then turned the gun on witness Trista Caudill and shot her in the lower right leg. Both Helton and Caudill were transported to the Hazard ARH for treatment of injuries, Caudill reportedly having fractures to both lower leg bones.

Stidham was originally charged with assault in the first degree and wanton endangerment in the first degree, but was indicted on one count of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree wanton endangerment, and one count of first-degree robbery. A cash bond was set in the amount of $100,000.
