CORNETTSVILLE—A Perry County minor has died after the ATV he was riding in was struck by another vehicle over the weekend.
Trooper Jody Sims with the Kentucky State Police (KSP) confirmed that Trooper Eric Caldwell responded to a call about an accident just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, involving an ATV and a vehicle in the Cornettsville area of Perry County on Kentucky Highway 699.
According to Sims, a side-by-side ATV, driven by Eulene Caudill with a minor passenger, had pulled out of a private drive and onto Hwy 699 when it crossed paths with a Toyota pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Jonathan Shepherd, of Slemp. Caudill and Shepherd were taken to the Hazard ARH for non-life-threatening injuries, while the minor was flown from the scene to the Holston Valley Medical Center, where he later died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Sims confirmed that the minor was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, and the use of alcohol or drugs have not been considered as contributing factors in the collision, though toxicology results are pending on both drivers.
The case remains under investigation by the KSP.
