HAZARD—One of three men accused of robbing two Perry County gas stations at gun point earlier this year pleaded guilty Thursday morning to amended charges.

Byron Fields, 29, of Hazard, was indicted earlier this year on two counts of first-degree burglary. Allegedly, on the night of January 20, Fields, Michael T. Amburgey, 23, of Vicco, and 31-year-old Earnest White, of Hazard, committed armed robbery on both the Vicco BP and Ramey’s BP.

According to the Kentucky State Police, more than $200 was taken from the Vicco BP just after 10 p.m. Only two hours later, robbers struck again, this time at Ramey’s BP, where only $20 was taken.

Fields appeared in Perry County Circuit Court Thursday morning to accept a plea deal for amended charges of two counts of criminal facilitation to robbery. Fields had reported in earlier court proceedings that he had only driven the getaway car for the robberies.

Fields was sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment for the charges, seven years, and was ordered to pay restitution to the Vicco BP and Ramey’s BP for the money that was taken from them.

Perry Circuit Judge William Engle explained that, per the plea deal, Fields would testify against Amburgey and White in future court proceedings if the Commonwealth should need him to.
