The Summer in the Park Citizen’s Committee is hard at work on the 9th annual Summer in the Park, a Celebration of the Arts and Bobby Davis Park. New events this year will include a Tiny Door Workshop, Pathfinders Quilt Squares Workshop and Tim Crager, Chainsaw Artist! This year, Annie Williams is bringing her culinary talents to our concession stand. She will be assisted by Little Theatre and funds raised will be used in presenting our 10th Festival in 2015!

Pathfinders of Perry County will also be offering a “Keep Kids Moving” activity that will involve hula-hoop, soccer, and badminton.

Art Director Tim Dunn is still recruiting artists to show (and sell!) their artwork. He can be contacted at contact tim.dunn@gmail.com. Confirmed artists include Don and Angela Duff, Sallie Martin, Lynn Watson, Amanda Gibson, and the region’s favorite writer of children’s books, Nancy Allen. Many others are expected, and the Appalachian Artisans Center of Hindman will have work by artists of the region and information about the Center.

Tim Crager will be showing his chainsaw cravings and demonstrating how he works. You can get a preview on his Facebook page: Chainsaw Carvings by Tim Crager.

The Festival also includes two plays by the LTH Youth Division. The LTH Teens will present “How NOT to Kill a Mockingbird” at 5 p.m. on the Greg Clay Stage across from St Mark’s Episcopal Church. The teen play is directed by Seth Lewis, a member of LTH Youth since 2005. This year’s cast includes Auddie Feltner, Ashley Hill, Dylan Stacy, Hannah Feltner, Sarah Torres, Caitlyn Fugate and Connor Francis.

The second play, performed by the Youth, is Geoff Bamber’s “Robin Hood and the King’s Bling, directed by Terry Thies, and will begin at 7 p.m. This play explores a time after King John has assumed King Richard’s throne and Robin Hood is burned out, while Maid Marion is just a little tired of forest living and is hankering for a castle of her own. The village has turned on Hood and the Sheriff is losing control of Sherwood Forest. This year’s cast includes Keenan Deaton, Zane Deaton, Ben Handshoe, Jacob Fields, Laura Hanna, Kourtney Gross, Raegan Francis, Connor Francis, Ella Cobb, Seth Lewis, Brock Torres, Ava Dixon, Madison Miller, Caitlyn Fugate, Haley Patterson, Alexa Davidson, Sky Slone, Dana Bush, Libby Doll, Mandy Engle, and Trey Lewis.

Summer in the Park is partially sponsored by the Community Foundation of Appalachia.
