Juanita Hall Roberts, 91, a longtime resident of Viper, passed from this life Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.


Juanita was born Wednesday, October 26, 1921, in Hazard, daughter of the late John Maltaw Hall and Ethel Campbell Hall. On July 4, 1943, she married William Lee Roberts who survives her.


Juanita is also survived by her five children: John Roberts and wife Nancy of Nashville, Dan Roberts of Laramie, Wyoming, Emily Whitaker of Hendricks, WV, Coni Crocher and husband Doug of Springfield, Il., and Glen Roberts and wife Lucy of Madison, Al.; sister Loraine Clark of Flint, Mi.; grandchildren Joe Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Jason Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Sarah Lucas, William Whitaker, Joe Zock, Andrew Mitchell, Courtney Mitchell, Melissa Precise, Justin Richards, and Lacey Richards; and great-grandchildren Taylor, Tanner, and Keil.


She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Kuhn, and her brother, Tom Hall.


Juanita was raised and educated in Hazard and earned her B.S. degree from Berea College. She taught at the Hindman Settlement School, was a devoted “Navy wife,” and oversaw many construction projects as a building administrator for GSA in Illinois. She was an avid crafts woman enjoying quilting, ceramics, and painting. She was a nature lover, had a strong commitment to volunteering, and was a mentor to many young women. She was a member of the Quota Club International, Prayers and Squares, the Quarter Horse Club, and many bridge clubs. She was also a member of the Hazard Presbyterian Church.


Juanita’s request for cremation was honored. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 in Viper.
