The Hazard Bulldogs boarded a bus on Friday and headed north to Fairview to take on the Eagles. The Bulldogs were knocked out of the playoffs by the Eagles last season, and were looking for some revenge.
The Bulldogs’ offense and defense was firing on all cylinders in the first half as they rolled up four touchdowns. Brandon Jones accounted for 166 yards and three touchdowns, while Tanner Morgan connected with Dylan Goins for a 28-yard screen pass for the other touchdown.
The Eagles were only able to muster 98 yards in the first half. Fairview collected 56 yards of that on a single run for a touchdown. Their other two touchdowns came off special teams play (81-yard kickoff return and a 21-yard interception return). The Bulldogs went into the locker room with the 27-22 lead.
Hazard struggled to get their offense going in the second half, and failed to pick up a touchdown. Fairview was able to take advantage of another Bulldog miscue late in the game. The Eagles picked up a mishandled punt on the Hazard 13-yard line. They were able to find the end zone in a couple of plays (30-27).
Hazard would have three more shots at taking the lead, and the win. Unfortunately, they would only be able to pick up a single first down, dashing their hopes of a comeback win.
