The Perry County Central wrestling team hosted their annual Nick Cory Takedown Tournament on Saturday. The tournament serves as wrestling’s preseason as the match is limited to takedowns, with no ground grappling.


Three teams took part in the tournament as the Commodores took on Whitley County and Letcher Central. Each school put two teams on the mat as the tournament was divided into experienced and novice wrestlers.


When the day was over, six of the seven Perry Central wrestlers in the experienced category had received first place.

132 lb. Bradley Colwell 1st place


138 lb. Austin Haney 1st place


160 lb. Ken Beverly 1st place


182 lb. Darien Bauer 1st place


195 lb. Jaden Ritchie 1st place


285 lb. Ethan Miller 2nd place


Perry Central fielded quite a few wrestlers in the novice division. The Commodores also did very well in this group, putting seven of their eight wrestlers on the first place podium.
