This year marks the beginning of another biddy league basketball organization in the county. The Perry County Youth League is off to a good start as five teams are pounding the hardwood on the northern end.
The league started with three teams as Buckhorn, Chavies, and Willard were looking to do more for their sports programs. Organizers looked at the success of teams from the southern end of the county, and wanted to provide their children the same opportunities.
After the initial three schools got together, they added East Perry and Hazard to the mix. However, Buckhorn, Chavies, and Willard will be the only three teams that field teams from preschool through second grade.
The games rotate between the members schools, with all the gate and concession receipts going to the host school to apply to their sports program. The league will be looking to add members later on, and any school interested can like the league’s Facebook page to get in touch with organizers.
