In their second game of the Walton Sun Blowout, the Buckhorn Wildcats took on another local team in the Paxton Bobcats. The Wildcats took the early lead, only to be undone by a poor third period performance.
Buckhorn was able to take the early lead behind a strong defensive stand, and at the end of the first period, the Wildcats held the 16-11 lead. However, Paxton was able to steal the momentum late in the half, and made up some ground. Going to the locker room Buckhorn’s lead was a scant three points (29-26).
The Wildcats came out of the break cold as ice, and quickly saw their lead disappear. With eight minutes left to play, Buckhorn found themselves down 41-33.
Try as they might, the Wildcats were unable to erase their deficit in the fourth quarter. The 62-50 loss dropped Buckhorn to 1-1 in tournament play.
Connor Hoskins led Buckhorn in scoring with 17 points, while Peyton Cooper added 6 rebounds and 5 assists to the effort.
