With football season quickly approaching, I am looking forward to hitting one of my favorite local barbecue joints to grab a cold beer, eat some barbecue, and watch my CATS! And that place is the Big Blue Smokehouse in Hazard.

It is very easy to feel at home here. I attribute it to the fact that the last two times I’ve been it’s basically been a high school reunion, which is always fun—seeing old friends and catching up.

I love going to watch sports—they always have some kind of event up and running on the big screens—because you can guarantee yourself you’ll be in good company. Lots of Wildcat blue, and lots of die-hard fans who always make for a rowdy, but interesting atmosphere. I enjoy it—always. Plus, you can’t beat a bucket of beer for $10, along with daily drink specials!

Big Blue is a local mecca for sports fans to come out, sit in the bar area, and enjoy tailgate-style goodies like chicken or barbecue nachos, chips and cheese, or fried mushrooms! They also offer amazing wings, and my favorite—fried green tomatoes.

If you’re in the mood for a sit down supper, I would suggest their ribs, fried catfish, or right now they have running a special for their prime rib. I had it catered at my wedding, and it’s great.

Big Blue has also completely revamped their menu by adding pulled pork potato skins, a shrimp boil, and fresh beignets with powdered sugar daily. Not to mention, their salad bar, with home made croutons, is the best salad bar in town. But I must say, Estill and Dougie, if you’re reading this, please put chicken salad back on! Pretty please?

So, with upcoming sport events and football season quickly approaching, I suggest you stop by and try out some great food and kick back for some local fun. With the new addition they’ve added, it’s the perfect place to bring everyone in your crew! Big Blue has all the right ingredients to make game-day a memorable one!
