HAZARD — An employee for the City of Hazard was arrested early this week and charged with theft for allegedly stealing money from a cash drawer at City Hall.

Brent M. Pulliam, 43, was filmed on two hidden cameras taking $540 from the cash drawer of an unattended desk and placing the cash in his pocket, according to records filed in the Perry District Clerk’s Office. He was served with an arrest warrant on Monday, but has since been released on his own recognizance.

Pulliam is charged with theft by unlawful taking of items valued at more than $500, a felony crime.

City Manager Carlos Combs on Wednesday declined to comment on the arrest.

Pulliam’s wife was arrested in a separate case the following day on Tuesday. Vivian Pulliam, a secretary at Roy G. Eversole Middle School, is charged with taking more than $6,100 from the school’s parent-teacher organization.

Both of their cases are being investigated by the Hazard Police Department.
