Last Thursday, the Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Letcher County and Betsy Layne as part of a two-team double header.

The Commodores struggled with their offense in the first game against Letcher County, and were limited to a single run in the game. By the time the Commodores got on the board, they already trailed the Cougars 5-0. Perry Central picked up the run after Connor Hurt bagged out a double, and came around to score on a sacrifice by Austin Neace.

The Cougars closed out the game strong, scoring two runs in the fifth inning, and seven in the sixth inning. Letcher Central ended the game early with the 14-1 score.

Perry Central stats: Connor Hurt 1 run and 2 hits, and Austin Neace 1 RBI.

The Commodores took on the Betsy Layne Bobcats in the second game, ending their week-long offensive drought as they went on to blank the Bobcats 6-0.

The Commodores broke the ice in the second inning with a single run. They duplicated the feat in the fifth inning, giving them the 2-0 lead.

Perry County put the game out of reach in the sixth inning as they crossed the plate four times to take the 6-0 advantage. The Commodores’ defense stood strong down the stretch, allowing them to go on to the 6-0 win.

Perry Central stats: Devin Turner 1 run, Trevor Combs 1 RBI, Jordan Baker 1 run and 1 hit, Austin Neace 2 runs, Evan Hurt 1 run and 1 RBI, Nathan Pray 1 run and 1 RBI and Tanner Collins 1 hit and 1 RBI. Winning pitcher: Derrick Luttrell: 7 inninigs, 3 hits, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts and 0 runs.
