A Perry County sheriff’s deputy who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident last week is continuing to recover this week.
On May 18, Deputy Daniel Fugate collided with another vehicle as he traveled on Combs Road in Airport Gardens. Fugate was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was listed in critical and then serious condition until late Monday afternoon.
He remains listed in fair condition following a surgery to his leg over the weekend. According to Sheriff Les Burgett, he is going to have another surgery on his leg at a later date. Since Monday, Fugate has been able to wake up and even converse with visitors.
Burgett said that Fugate is doing remarkably better considering the condition he was in less than a week ago. After such a severe accident, Burgett said that he should be thankful for his speedy recovery, but that it will still be a long road before he is fully recovered.
