A Perry County sheriff’s deputy injured in a motorcycle accident is continuing to recover this week at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Deputy Daniel Fugate was injured when his motorcycle collided with an SUV near the Circle T Restaurant in Airport Gardens. Fugate was airlifted to UK Medical Center where he has been recovering.

According the Chief Deputy Tony Eversole, Fugate suffered a broken leg, neck, bleeding on the brain and cuts to his arms. He underwent surgery on his leg just days after arriving at the hospital and came through well.

Since then he has had a second surgery on his leg and skin grafts on his arms. According to Eversole, Fugate has experienced some minor complications but they are hoping to move him to a recovery facility soon.

“He has been having some problems with high temperature and high vitals, but he is still making progress,” said Eversole. “They are talking about sometime in the near future about getting him in to rehab at Cardinal Health.”
