The Perry County Central Commodores and the Hazard Bulldogs hooked up last week in the 53rd district soccer tournament. The Commodores took the early lead, and never looked back as they moved on in tournament play.

The Commodores scored early in the game as Corey Mullis took a corner kick rebound back to the goal. Mullis chipped the ball to the near corner for the 1-0 lead.

Minutes later Logan Spencer and Zac Combs worked their way through the Hazard defense. Spencer ended up with the ball and made good on the shot (2-0).

Midway through the first half, Dane Mullins dribbled through the left side and ended up with a shot. Mullins deposited the ball low in the near corner, giving Perry Central the 3-0 lead.

Late in the half, Hazard’s Gary Kilburn took a crossing pass from Bryant Fugate and managed to squeak it past the goalie (1-3). The goal did not stand long as Logan Spencer erased the score just moments later. The game went to the half with Perry Central leading 4-1.

Early in the second half, Hazard was able to get their footing on the loose turf. Gary Kilburn scored his second goal on an assist from Conner Carawan (2-4).

Late in the game, the Commodores were able to put the game on ice. Corey Mullis mimicked a goal kick, freeing him up for a one-on-one shot with the goalie. Mullis made good on the shot, giving the Commodores the 5-2 lead.

The 5-2 score held as the final, putting the Commodores in the championship game.
