Some Perry County Students got a lesson in patriotism and honoring the nation’s veterans this during a Veteran’s Day presentation. The students of A.B. Combs Elementary on Monday welcomed veterans from the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 64 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The DAV members introduced themselves and told about their time in the armed forces. The students then learned the significance of folding the flag, and what each fold represents. The women of the Ladies Auxiliary then portrayed the flag while Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” played in the packed gymnasium. The entire school moved from the gym to the football field when the DAV preformed a 21-Gun Salute followed by the playing of “Taps.”
