HAZARD – An indictment was returned Friday against a Perry County man arrested last month by authorities in Ohio and currently awaiting extradition back to Kentucky.

James Barger, 25, of Gays Creek, was already wanted on warrants in Perry County when he was arrested in Columbus on Dec. 20, and this latest indictment charges him with new counts of felony theft, second-degree fleeing police, and first-degree persistent felony offender.

Barger is accused of stealing a mesh trailer and riding lawn mower from the Tractor Supply in Hazard on July 29, 2012, and on the same day disobeying a police officer’s order to stop, according to the indictment.

He is currently being held in a Columbus jail, though authorities in Hazard said work is being completed to have him transported back to Perry County. Bail for this latest indictment, which was returned by the grand jury on Dec. 28, was set at $30,000. He is set for arraignment in Perry Circuit Court on Jan. 31.
