HINDMAN – A Floyd County man was arrested and charged with murder last week after the body of a missing Knott County man was found on Friday.
Troopers with the Kentucky State Police were called to a surface mining road in the Triplett Branch community of Knott County at 9:58 a.m. Friday after an abandoned truck was located in the area.
Following a routine registration check, police determined that the vehicle was related to an active missing persons search. Troopers later searched the area and located the body of 30-year-old Eric Tysen Fugate of Hindman, who had been reported missing less than 24 hours earlier.
The official cause of death is pending, according to a KSP release, but authorities say they were able to determine that Fugate was killed during an altercation with 34-year-old Jerry B. Combs of Wayland.
Combs was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard while the investigation continues.
