Jamie Dale Rose, 49, of Hazard, died Wednesay, July 13, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Bernard Rose. He is survived by his mother, Beatrice "Bee" Neace Rose of Lothair; 2 daughters, Paige Rose and Jessica Rose, both of Lothair; 1 sister, Pamela Rector of Richmond; 1 brother, Mike Rose of Lothair; host of relative and friends. Funeral was conducted Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Engle-Walker Funeral Home with Dan Griffith officiating. Engle-Walker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Collins Combs

Thelma Collins Combs, 88, of Hazard, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Hazard Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late John "Doc" and Ella Anderson Collins. She is survived by 2 sons, Donald Guy Combs of Lothair; Harold Gene Combs of Louisville; 2 sisters, Bessie Spangler and Virginia Profitt, both of Letcher County; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral was conducted Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Engle-Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clell Miller officiating, burial in the Carr Creek Cemetery in Litt Carr. Engle-Walker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Roosevelt Combs

Charles Roosevelt Combs, 44, of Dwarf, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, TN. He was the son of the late Charlie and Marbeth Combs. He is survived by 5 sisters, Brenda Caudill, Charlene Cress, Abbie Brock, Eva Engle and Vivian Dean; 5 brothers, Stanley Combs, Anthony Combs, James Cordell Combs, Perry Ervin Combs and Eddie Coleman. Funeral was conducted Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Lotts Creek United Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Smith officiating, burial in the Combs Cemetery in Acup. Maggard Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Frank "Judge" Miller

Frank "Judge" Miller, 96, of Hazard, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at Heallen Ellis Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was the son of the late Flint Miller and Lula Gabbard. He is survived by 1 daughter, Rayma West of Hazard; 1 daughter-in-law, Pat Miller of Hazard; 1 son, Joe Miller and wife Diane of Palm Harbor, FL; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral was conducted Thursday, July 14, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Hazard with Ron Sholar and Dr. Rickey Ray officiating, burial in the Englewood Cemetery in Christopher. Jessie Mae Collins Williams, 80, of Krypton, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the Hazard Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Dora Collins. She is survived by 2 daughters, Vernice Williams of Ary; Joyce Duff of Vanceburg; 2 sons, Clarence Williams of Austin, IN; Johnny Williams of Busy; 2 brothers, Edgar Collins of Krypton; Emory Collins of Austin, IN; 14 grandchildren, host of great-grandchildren. Funeral was conducted Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Karen Campbell and Rev. Jim Sluss officiating, burial in the Collins-Williams Cemetery in Krypton. Mattie H. Horne Smith

Mattie H. Horne Smith, 87, of Hazard, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Hazard Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Cara Horne and Sally McIntosh. She is survived by 1 daughter, Jayne Wesley Squires and husband Bill; 2 sons, Jerry Ronald Smith and wife Jenny; Jon Bruce Smith and wife Karen: 3 sisters, Bobby Steele, Jean Brown and Joan Hensey; 1 brother, John Horne; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral was conducted Sunday, July 17, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church in Hazard with Rev. Ellen Peach officiating, burial in the Riverside Cemetery. Geraldine Combs, 72, of Hazard, died Thursday, July 14, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Zephyr Combs and Myrtle Neely. She is survived by 5 daughters, Terri King, Sonya Bailey, Paula Crutcher, Leslie Bowling and Kimberly Combs; 2 sisters, Claudean Smith, Judy Wayman; 2 brothers, Tim Combs, Randy Combs; 6 grandchildren, Calvin King, Rondall Smith, Mason Perry, Travis Perry, Cheyenne Crutcher and Noah Summerset. Funeral was conducted Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Smith officiating, burial in the Combs Family Cemetery in Christopher. Bill Standafer, 70, of Avawam, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the Hazard Medical Center. He was the son of the late George and Jane Vanover Standafer. He is survived by 1 daughter, Barbara Standafer; 1 son, Jody Standafer; 2 sisters, Mimia Shepherd, Lillian Terry; 1 brother, Oberine Standafer; 5 grandchildren, Michael and wife Tonya, Nicole, Brenda, Travis and Betty; 2 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Austin. Funeral was conducted Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Big Creek Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. Johnny Akers officiating, burial in the Kilburn Cemetery in Avawam. Opal Sumner

Opal Sumner, 75, of Happy, died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Eartha Combs Chaney. She is survived by 4 daughters; Sherrian Noble of Hazard, Janet Blair of Happy, Teresa Doby of Charlotte, NC, and Janie Ashworth of Somerset, KY; 1 son, Paul Sumner of Happy, 3 sisters, Thelma Amburgey of Vicco, Dema Baber of Versailles, and Golda Chaney of Hazard, and 1 brother, Marion Chaney of Georges Branch. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 17, 2005 with Rev. Clell Miller officiating. Burial in the Resthaven Cemetary at Jeff.

Newell Keith Combs

Newell Keith Combs, 68, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at his home in Hazard . He was the son of the late Otis and Maude Combs, and is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lena Caudill. He is survived by 1 daughter; Jeanna Maude Napier of Hazard, 1 son; Randall Keith Combs of Hazard, and special family, Paulette Combs, and Cecil Combs. He is also survived by three grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services were held July 19, 2005 at Maggard Brothers Chapel in Hazard with Rev. Jack Carter officiating. Interment at Keith Combs Cemetery in Upper 2nd Creek.
