HAZARD – Administrators at Perry Central High School received word on Friday that Jaysean Paige will be eligible to play for the Commodores on the basketball court this season.

The Herald learned of the decision late Friday afternoon.

As a junior at Jamestown High School in New York, Paige averaged 26 points per game as he led the Red Raiders to the state AA semifinals. He was later named player of the year in Western New York.

Paige moved with his family to Perry County earlier this year and enrolled at Perry Central, where he was initially ruled ineligible by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. That ruling was appealed during a hearing on November 1, and then overturned this week.

Paige comes to Perry County as a highly touted player, and joins an already loaded Commodores team that was rated at the top of the 14th Region coming into the 2011-12 season.

Why were they thinking that he was ineligible in the first case? If he transferred from New York state, he hadn't played for any other Kentucky team right?
