Perry Central started their week by hosting the Corbin Redhounds. The Redhounds have been on a tear of late, defeating South Laurel and North Laurel, both teams that have defeated the Commodores.

Defense was the name of the game in this contest. Corbin took the 1-0 lead just before the half. However, they would not find the goal again in the game. Perry Central tied the game with a Jordan Combs goal late in the half, with an assist by J. R. Lunsford. The game would end with a 1-1 tie.

The Perry Central boys’ soccer team traveled to Paintsville over the weekend to take on the Johnson Central Eagles. The Commodores had their way with the Eagles in both the Varsity and JV contests.

In the JV contest, the Commodores exploded for nine goals and took a 9-1 win. Michael Valencia led the way for the Commodores with a goal and two assists. Greg Hibbard had two goals and Anthony Brashear had two assists.

The Commodores continued their domination in the varsity game. They were able to get off a shot at will, and went on to an easy 6-1 win.

Ross Baker opened the scoring with a goal at the five minute mark. Baker was assisted in his goal by J. R. Lunsford. Johnson Central quickly retaliated with a goal (1-1).

At that point, Perry Central took control of the game. J. R. Lunsford switched to the shooting end of the goal, giving the Commodores the 2-1 lead. Ross Baker was able to reciprocate, giving the assist to Lunsford.

After the half, the Commodores really began to heat up. Jordan Combs picked up the first of his two goals with less than five minutes gone in the frame (assist to J. R. Lunsford). Combs then gave up the ball to Ross Baker for a goal at the 11 minute mark (4-1).

Only minutes later, Jordan Combs picked up his second goal off the double assist from Ross Baker and J. R. Lunsford (5-1).

Anthony Brashear closed out the scoring with his first varsity goal. Brashear was assisted in the goal by Jordan Combs. The Commodores then cruised to the 6-1 win.
