JACKSON — A Hazard man was one of three people arrested in Breathitt County on Friday, after police say a juvenile was found unresponsive inside a closet near an active meth lab.
The Breathitt Advocate reports that 22-year-old Todd Sexton, of Hazard, was charged with manufacturing meth and illegally possessing meth precursors on Feb. 1. Also charged were 32-year-old Chris Salyers and 31-year-old Kenneth Neace, both of Jackson.
Deputies with the Breathitt County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence at Big Rock after the homeowner requested the removal of people inside the home. Though officers were initially unable to make entry, the homeowner eventually arrived on the scene and granted police access. That’s when three men allegedly fled the residence and ran into the hills, the newspaper reports.
The men, identified as Sexton, Salyers, and Neace, were eventually captured, but during the chase police also discovered an active meth lab inside a nearby building. According to the Advocate, the men later confessed to making meth for their own use.
The home was later searched, and that’s when the juvenile, a female, was located inside a closet. She was transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, and according to the paper, has since been released.
Sexton, Salyers, and Neace, meanwhile, appeared for arraignment in Breathitt District Court on Monday. Sexton and Neace are being held without bond, while Salyers is currently lodged in jail on a $25,000 bond.
