The Herald-Leader out of Lexington reported that at least 12 people were confirmed dead in Kentucky after the string of storms spawned deadly tornadoes and damaging winds.
Downtown West Liberty was hit hard by the storm, and at least one person was killed in Morgan County. Four additional deaths have also been reported from Menifee County.
Several more counties in Eastern Kentucky saw their fair share of severe weather as well. Though Floyd County was largely spared, the Floyd County Times in Prestonsburg reported that nearby counties Johnson and Magoffin both sustained damage.
In the East Bernstadt community of Laurel County, the Herald-Leader reported three deaths and three people missing Friday night, while in Frankfort Gov. Steve Beshear declared a state of emergency early Friday evening to help mobilize resources.
