According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police at the time of the accident, Felecia R. Abner, 30, of Bonnyman, was allegedly driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer on May 21, 2010 when she pulled onto Sam Campbell Branch Road near Bonnyman, lost control of her vehicle, went over an embankment and crashed the car into a utility pole. There were two children in the vehicle at the time, both of which were Abner’s nephews.
According to Abner’s arrest warrant, she was allegedly under the influence of prescription medication at the time of the accident.
Her three-year-old nephew was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, but was not in a car seat, police said. He suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead at the Hazard ARH medical center. His brother, also in the back seat of the car, received non-life threatening injuries. Neither child’s name was released.
Abner was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Thomas around 7 p.m. on April 28 of this year and charged with one count of driving while under the influence, first offense, one count of reckless driving and one count of murder.
She is currently being lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
