Authorities with the Kentucky State Police say the incident occurred on Ladder Branch Road around 8 p.m. last Thursday when two males, Clyde Haynes, Jr., 26, and Thomas Roberts, Jr., 31, received gunshot wounds from another male subject who fled the scene in a pickup truck.
Haynes and Roberts were both taken to the Hazard ARH and then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
A preliminary investigation led police to 38-year-old Jerry W. Wooton, of Hazard. He was arrested by police on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and charged with two counts of first-degree assault.
Wooton is currently being lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Detention Center. Court records show that he is set to appear in Perry District Court on October 21 for a preliminary hearing.
The investigation is continuing by Detectives Gary Sandlin and Clayton Stamper.
