Wildcats sink Pirates

On Saturday, the Buckhorn Wildcats took on the Belfry Pirates in the Peoples Bank, Hyden Citizens Bank Classic. The Wildcats took the early lead, but allowed the Pirates to get back in the game late. Buckhorn pulled away late to take the 75-61 win.

Buckhorn forced the pace early, making Belfry to play at a pace not to their liking. The Wildcats took a 21-16 lead at the end of the first period.

The Pirates began to wear down early in the second period, allowing the Wildcats to work out a double-digit lead. Going into the half, Buckhorn held a 42-26 advantage.

Belfry came out of the break rested, and began to chip away at the Buckhorn lead. With eight minutes to play, the Wildcats still held a 55-44 lead, but the momentum remained on the Pirates’ side.

The Pirates continued to cut into the Wildcat lead early in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats put the comeback bid to bed midway through the period as they once again forced the pace. Buckhorn went on to win the game by the final count of 75-61.
