Yankees close out Little League action with win

The James River Coal Yankees and the Walters’ Toyota Dodgers closed out Saturday’s Little League action. The Dodgers grabbed the early lead, but could not hold off a late charge by the Yankees.

The Dodgers opened the game with four runs, and tacked on another in the second inning to secure the 5-0 lead. The Yankees cut the margin to two with a pair of runs in the third and one more in the fourth inning (5-3).

The Dodgers pushed the lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning, but gave up six runs to the Yankees in the bottom of the frame, giving the Yankees the 9-6 advantage. The Dodgers could not mount a rally in the sixth inning, setting the final at 9-6.

Yankees (9) Wade Pelfrey 3 hit and 3 runs, Bailey Blair 2 hits and 1 run, Skyler Pelfrey 1 hit and 1 run, Cameron Stacy 1 hit and 1 run, Reece Fletcher 1 hit, Baxton Cottongame 1 hit, Trevor Spurlock 1 run, Mason Grigsby 1 run and Tyson Turner 1 run.

Dodgers (6) K. Johnson 1 run, D. Fields 2 runs, B. Dixon 1 run, J. Johnson 1 run and 1 hit, and C. Walker 2 hits and 1 run.
