Commodore Players members Ramsey Hall and Hailey Madden finish up dress rehearsal for the play “Screenagers”, a play centered on showing the ridiculousness of society’s dependency on cellphones, electronics, and being in constant contact with one another.
Members of Perry Central’s drama company, The Commodore Players, travelled to the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday to perform at the 5th Annual Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society (EKDAS) High School Drama Festival.
The Commodore Players competed in the festival format against Drama programs from Whitley County, Harlan County, and Madison Southern high schools. Perry Central performed the one-act comedy “Screenagers,” by playwrights Jane and Jim Jeffries. The production was directed by PCC Drama teacher Phil Neace.
In the afternoon, after the final performance closed, awards were given out to represent the best in high school theatre performance.
The Commodore Players were awarded first Place, best overall performance, for the entire festival. Three PCC students were named to the EKDAS All Mountain Cast, and PCC also won several special judges’ discretionary awards for outstanding elements in their performance.

Perry Central will perform their award-winning production of “Screenagers” for the public, one night only, on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. as part of Perry County Central’s Fine Arts Night. Admission is free.
EKDAS exists as cooperative group, of all high schools in the Eastern Kentucky mountain region, from Ashland to Berea to Wayne County with all places in between, to promote the fine arts in the region’s schools with the goal that every high school in Eastern Kentucky will have drama as part of their school activities.
