The Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Hyden Friday for the championship game of the 14th region All “A” baseball tournament. The Bulldogs took on the Cordia Lions for a chance at their sixth consecutive trip to the state tournament.
The Bulldogs got on the board early with two runs in the first inning. Hazard then tacked on two more runs in the second inning to take the 4-0 lead. The lone run in the third inning belonged to Cordia, bringing the score to 4-1.
Hazard broke the game open in the fourth inning as they tapped the dish five times to take the 9-1 advantage. The Bulldogs came back with two runs in the fifth inning, putting their lead at 11-1. After holding the Lions in the sixth inning, the game was called via the “mercy rule,” giving Hazard another trip to the state tournament (11-1).
Jacob Roll picked up the win on the mound, going the distance with four hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.
