HAZARD – Perry County joined a growing list of Kentucky counties this week placing a ban on all outdoor burning, while temperatures outside hovered around triple digits Thursday afternoon.
Perry County Judge-Executive Denny Ray Noble signed an executive order making the ban effective at noon on Thursday, June 28.
Under the proclamation, the ban of all outdoor burning in Perry County is the result of ongoing dry weather conditions, which are predicted to continuing for the next several days.
“I urge all Perry County citizens to comply with this proclamation so that we can preserve Perry County’s timber resources,” Noble stated.
Meanwhile, there is currently no end in sight to the soaring temperatures and dry conditions that prompted the ban. The National Weather Service in Jackson predicts temperatures to hit 100 degrees on Friday and Saturday, and remain above the 90-degree mark for the next few days after. There is currently no rain in the forecast for Perry County through July 5.
