Bulldogs advance in district with win over Leslie

The 54th District softball tournament at Perry Central was delayed by rain Tuesday evening, but got underway Wednesday with the Hazard Bulldogs punching their ticket to the district finals with a 7-4 win over Leslie County.

The two teams hadn’t previously met this season, though both had similar records going into the game.

The contest was close throughout, with the score knotted at 4-4 going into the seventh inning. That’s when Hazard mounted a three-run rally to take the lead. Leslie County was unable to counter in the bottom of the frame, giving Hazard the win and a shot at the district title when they will face off against Perry Central Thursday evening.

Hazard’s Chandler Maggard picked up the win on the mound.
