Former UK football great Tim Couch was in Hazard Monday during an appreciation luncheon at the ARH Medical Mall.
HAZARD — Appalachian Regional Healthcare and University of Kentucky Healthcare hosted an appreciation luncheon at the ARH Medical Mall in Hazard Monday afternoon for former UK and NFL football player Tim Couch, Maker’s Mark, and Keeneland.
ARH and UK Healthcare were the recipients of a donation from Couch, Maker’s Mark, and Keeneland, the funds for which were generated during the Maker’s 46 Mile stakes race and from the sales of the 16th edition commemorative bottle that featured Couch’s likeness.
Couch, a native of Hyden whose father succumbed to heart disease a few years ago, said he was glad to help raise money for a cause so close to home.
“This is something that will help everyone,” Couch said.
ARH President and CEO Jerry Haynes said the donations to ARH and UK Healthcare were just over $275,000, and would help the region in the fight against heart disease by helping to finish ARH’s new 100,000-square-foot facility in Hazard.
Bill Thomason, president and CEO of Keeneland, who was present at the luncheon, agreed that connections to home and family are vital in issues like the fight against heart disease.
“These connections are so important,” Thomason said. “We know we’re involved with something that’s saving lives, and what can be more important than that.”
