Former Perry Central standout John Couch is currently playing with the Independent League in New Mexico.
Perry County native John Couch is still chasing his dream of playing Major League baseball as he heads out for New Mexico and the Independent League. Couch will report to the White Sands Pupfish in Alamogordo, New Mexico at the end of the month.
The Bonnyman native first showed a talent for baseball on the t-ball fields of the Perry County Park. By the time he reached the sixth grade, he was playing on the Perry Central High School team. Couch first showed his talent on the mound, but later began to excel with his glove and bat as well.
After a strong career with the Commodores, Couch took his talents to Lincoln Memorial University. He had a stellar career with the Railsplitters, ending with a .326 batting average and a .907 fielding percentage. With the Railsplitters, he scored 157 runs, collected 196 hits (50 doubles, two triples, 26 homeruns and 161 RBI), and finished with a .546 slugging percentage.
Recently, Couch participated in the Arizona Winter League, playing for Team Canada. He finished the 18-game season with a .333 batting average, and led the league in doubles. His stats there earned him a contract with the Pupfish.
