The past couple of seasons have seen a marked improvement in the Perry Central Commodores’ football program. Last season saw the Commodores go 9-3 on the season, as well as hosting and winning their first ever playoff game. This season, Perry Central will be looking to post their first ever 10-win season.

Perry Central lost 11 seniors last season, eight of which saw major playing time. Most of the loss will be felt on the defensive side of the ball as they lost seven starters, including all-state defender Matthew Robinson. The Commodores also lost four starters on offense, including quarterback Kyle Huff.

As with many teams, the Commodores will fell the brunt of graduation along the offensive and defensive line. Younger players will be expected to step up this season, with little time or room for mistakes as Perry Central will play one of the toughest schedules around.

The Commodores have moved receiver Austin Pray into the quarterback slot. Pray will still have several dangerous targets to hit as Robert McClain is making improvements at tight end, and Nathan Pray and Darryl Beatty are always a threat.

Perry Central will have two explosive players in the backfield as Darryl Beatty and Kegan Robinson will take over the running duties. Pray will also be a threat to run.

The Commodores’ strong point will be their secondary. Devan Brewer, Josh Garry, Daniel Messer and Tyler Fugate will anchor the defense.

If the Commodores can survive their tough schedule without major injuries, they should be able to make a strong run in the playoffs this season.
