HAZARD -- A Perry County man charged with wanton endangerment and assault after allegedly ramming two police cruisers last week has escaped from custody. Kentucky River Regional Jail officials confirmed that 35-year-old William Feltner escaped while being transported from the Perry County courthouse after his arraignment on Monday. Feltner apparently jumped from a jail transport van along Highway 15 near the Daniel Boone Motor Inn, said Captain Jason Duff with the Hazard Police Department. He could not confirm if Feltner was injured in the escape. A witness later reported seeing a man dressed in a shirt and underwear cross Highway 15 near the booster station below Morton Blvd. early Monday evening, Duff said, and officers have centralized their search in that area. The Kentucky State Police have also joined in the search with a K-9 unit. Anyone with information concerning this case should contact the Hazard City Police at 436-2222 or the Kentucky State Police at 435-6069. The Herald will have more on this story as information becomes available.
